If you insist on a paint or \\"concrete stain\\" be prepared to have to redo your floor every two to three years. If you dont mind having to do this or your budget is limited please take the recommended prep to heart as this will increase your chances of longevity of your floor by a factor of at least 50%. When deciding on products for your floor try to find paint that is higher in solids than others. This will give you a better chance of receiving a good product. Behr, Duron and Olympic are good choices for this type of product.
Decorative concrete made from ready mix concrete consists of sand, gravel, Portland cement, water and other additives. For stained concrete, caustic materials such as metallic salts, diluted hydrochloric acid, dyes and hydrated lime are used to produce gorgeous colors, but this also requires the use of these dangerous chemicals, meaning that it is always safest and best to allow professional contractors of concrete to handle these types of jobs around the home. They are trained in their appropriate use, and can achieve reliable results in the safest manner possible. Stamped concrete uses specialty molds and other techniques to create concrete surfaces that resemble flagstone, cobblestone, brick and even hardwood floors. Many patterns are available, so you have a broad range of choices when it comes to ready mix concrete flooring for your patio, walkways or driveway.
If the existing floor surface needs to be solidified and densified, the contractor might apply penetrating hardeners to the concrete. This usually happens after first stage of the grinding process. The hardeners can be used on both existing or new floors and react chemically with the concrete to result in a hard crystalline structure. In addition, the hardeners offer extra protection from staining and water penetration and also prevent the concrete dusting.
